Artist Bio :
I am a San Francisco, California-based artist creating handmade illustrations of encyclopedic information visualizations since 2010.
I collect and combine images from humankind’s database of knowledge to illustrate a grand narrative of the connected-and-whole nature of reality— from the atomic to the cosmic, from the beginning of Time to speculations on the future of humanity and life in the Universe.
Inspired by comics & sequential art, science text-book diagrams, and the beauty of the natural world, I meticulously craft multi-layered, densely-detailed artworks that are intended as educational tools for a universal audience, communicating a broad range of complex concepts with compelling intricacy, elegance, & emotional resonance.
Artist Statement :
I am living by a mythology ; an in-process hero-journey
that is an active exploration of the infinite mindscapes of self, life, and universe.
My Artworks are maps of this exploration.
Created from symbols and motifs collected along my way,
these maps that I craft are ever-evolving-- growing inwardly and outwardly as the journey progresses through time.
and I've only just begun.
This work is to be my one-and-forever magnum opus,
the meaning for my being,
my gift to the human enterprise.
For these maps that I craft are not only to chart and guide my own path,
but also the paths of all fellow humans.
As far as i can see, we--Individually and collectively--are blundering through the historical landscape, hurtling through a dark cosmos of known and unknown existential threats. We are lost and blind, desperate for any and all navigation aids that might light the way toward our destination, our destiny.
So, what will it be,
Utopia ?
or,
Oblivion ?
or, is it truly only all about the journey ?
well, if that's so, c'mon then, let's go !
But which way ?
Infinite in all directions !
Onward forever wherever,
Future-forward at the rate of one second per second.
